Where a person loses the ability to make their own decisions and has not put the appropriate documentation in place to appoint an Enduring Power of Attorney or an Advance Care Directive, the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (SACAT) (previously the Guardianship Board) has the power to appoint people to manage their affairs. A range of people may apply to SACAT seeking to be appointed.
